TOURIST INFORMATION VALUN (ISLAND CRES)

Valun (Croatia, Kvarner, Island Cres) is coastal settlement situated on the south part of Valun bay on island Cres in Croatia. It arised as a harbour of elder settlement Bucevciji who's remains were found near St. Mark's Church.

In St. Mark's Church there is a tomb monument for a child, who according to the local stories was a child of Filip Vidic, man who moved from Valun, became a rich man and turned back. His child, eating bread and feeding pigeons, fell over the fence. Monument has two angels, one holding bread and the other one a pigeon.

Other monuments to see are Valun plate from 11th century (tombstone of old croatian family), Glagolitic lapidarij which shows copies of the oldest glagolitic inscriptions in area of Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia (Croatia). Valun is a small and extraordinary place that offers many boat excursions, long walks, gastronomy specialties... Population is directed to the agriculture (olive groves) and fishing. Valun has pebbly beaches. On the waterfront there are restaurants and a store. Valun is one of the most beautiful bays in north part of croatian coast Jadran.
