Orebic (Croatia, South Dalmatia) take it`s name from 16th century from family of Peljesac captains. Orebic is most popular touristic destination on Peljesac peninsula. Orebic is also called Orebici, by local inhabitants. Orebic is located on the south coast of Peljesac peninsula. It is only 2 NM from Korcula, so it`s conected frequently by ferry boat. Orebic offers nice summer atmosphere. You can see rows of captain`s houses, between gardens of pine, lemon, almond, orange and other Mediterranean vegetation...

Orebic is one of the warmest touristic resorts in Croatia. Air temperature in summer is 26 C and sea temperature is 22 C. It is protected from north wind "Bura" by mountains Saint Ilija and Vizanjica. Those mountains are attractive for hikers. From top of the Saint Ilija you can see outline of the Italian coast, but only when the weather is clear. Orebic coast has many sand beaches. Also, you can swimm on pebble beaches. The biggest pebble beach is Trstenica and it is 1 500 metres long.

In Orebic you can see some historical monuments, such as remains of Roman Villa, especially valueble Early Christian marble relief above the doors of Baroque church, Maritime Museum, art collections of the Fiskovic and Zupa families and other prehistoric menhirs and fortifications...

In the 18th and 19th century Orebic had an golden days of its seafaring tradition. One of the biggest shipping companies AMS "Associazione Marittima di Sabioncello" had an a central office in Orebic between 1865 and 1887. Company had 33 ships named with Biblical names. Company capital was 2 000 000 Austrian gold forints. Ships were cruising even to North America. Ships are being made of wood, with white sails. Fiskovic Jozo, sea captain, made a voyage from Marseilles to Mauritis (Indian Ocean).

Some important stone structures in Orebic are built. For example, Palace of Court, Seaman`s Society Palace, Seaman`s Museum Palace and these buildings have characteristic courtyard. Courtyards are made with stone columns and they are all surrounded by beautiful gardens.
