TOURIST INFORMATION NOVI VINODOLSKI

Novi Vinodolski (Croatia, Kvarner) is tourist town situated 9 km from Crikvenica, in central part of north Croatian coast. It is very popular destination for family vacation, with clear sea, rich vegetation, culture heritage.... It is located on crossing roads. One is entering arable Vinodol valley and the other one streching along the coast.

Remains on hill Osap tell story about life since many thousands years ago and presence of Romans. On the coast itself there is fort Lopar, and small island St. Marin, where was found inscription with a name of Jelena, mother of emperor Konstantin. It is very significant production of wine and export of wood, transport services... Vinodol is one of three first settlements of Croats on east coast of Jadran. There were many intelectuals, such as family Mazuranic, participating in Illyrian movement and croatian national renaissance.

In Novi Vinodolski there are many monuments of culture that are protected by law. Some of them are:

FRANKOPAN CASTLE

- built in 13th century

- in 1288. the oldest juristical monument on croatian language and glagolitic script, Vinodol code, was written in it

TOWER TURNAC OR KVADRAC

BELLTOWER

- built in 20th century on the place of St. Fabian and Sebastian's church

ST. PHILIP AND JACOB'S CHURCH

- built in 14th century as a threesided basilika

- there is a tombstone of the bishop Christopher, bishop Ivan. K. Caballini, bishop Ivan. K. Jezic and the canon Stjepan Mrzljak

ST. MARIN'S CHURCH

- built in 17th-18th century

- built at the beginning of the 15th century
