Lopud (Croatia, South Dalmatia, Island Lopud) is an island of lush Meditteranean and subtropical vegetation, full of beautiful gardens, beaches, parks... Razzi, Dubrovnik historian, clames that Lopud had 30 churches in the 16th century, as well as many summer residences, few monasteries... In 16th century, Lopud had many more inhabitants than today. On the island you can se ruins of medieval churches, summer residences and fortresses. In 1483 they built Franciscan monastery who had defensive towers and walls. Also, near was church of Saint Mary of Splica. Church keeps valuable art; the triptych of Bozidarevic Nikola, polyptych of Pietro de Giovanni and Girolan da Santacroce, Flemish master Bassan paintings and many more... Church of our Lady of Sunjaz from the 15th century holds paintings by Palma the elder, Juncic Mateja, Natalino de Murano... Church is very valuable cultural monument. Island Lopud is well connected to Dubrovnik`s port Gruz, several times a day.
