KVARNER

Kvarner is an Croatian region that combines all types of climate and vegetation, shores, islands and highlands. It has a longes touristic tradition in Croatia, over 160 years. NATURE - FAUNA

Kvarner is an area with unusually extraordinary biological diversity, with various animals and plants. Most birds that are considered endangered live in the area of Kvarner. All big European predators are in the single place; gold eagle, bonelli eagle, short-toed eagle, griffon vultures, horned owls, falcons, grouses, hawk... And they all have their nests here... Island of Krk is a home for great number of reptiles and amphibians.

NATURE - LAKES AND RIVERS

Biggest river on the Kvarner area is Kupa. It flows through the mountainous Gorski Kotar and its source is very large, 200 x 30 metres. Through Kvarner various rivers and streams flow, like Dobra, Cabranka, Velika Bjelica, Mala Bjelica, Gerovcica, Licanka, Lokvarka... River Rjecina is the main river and it covers area of 200 square metres. City of Rijeka drink water from river Rjecina.

NATURE - MOUNTAINS

NATIONAL PARK RISNJAK

Risnjak is one of the most beautiful attraction in Kvarner. It is only 15 kilometres from the sea. Climate is various, mild mediterranean and alpine. Characteristic of mountain Risnjak are: Dinaric rocky terrain, specific hydrography and forms, virgin forest and intact mountain tops, varied vegetation, complex geological structure, 51 bird species nests (hawks, eagles, black grouse, wood partridges, woodpeckers, thrushes, tits, jays...), bears, wolves, lynxes... View from Risnjak on Adriatic coast, Slovenian Alps, Medvednica, Velebit, Kapela and Plješivica you don`t want to miss.

UCKA

Mountain Ucka is 20 km long. It starts from the saddle at Poklon (across which the Rijeka-Pazin road passes) to Plomin bay. Highest peak of Ucka is Vojak which is 1401 metres high. There are many springs which are quite vigorous in the winter, several canyon valleys and other rocky shapes, like sink holes, caves.... Ucka is climatic barrier that force air mass to elevate. It has luxuriant vegetation and it is quite different from other littoral mountains. In summer you can enjoy the unique view from Ucka peaks while you are in refreshment that is offered by Ucka`s woods. Several tourist facilites are built in Ucka; climbers lodging boarding house, restaurant Ucka at Poklon, Hotel in Poklon and belvedere on Vojak. Also, you can stay in private accomodation on mountain Ucka area.

NATURE - CAVES

CAVE BISERUJKA, RUDINE (ISLAND OF KRK)

This cave is known for about one 100 years. Cave Biserujka is located near Rudine, above Slivanj Bay (Slivanjska uvala). Cave Biserujka is 110 metres long. Inside the cave is spacious underground area, full of stalactites, stalagmites and calcite pillars that thrills it`s visitors. CAVE LOKVARKA, LOKVE (GORSKI GOTAR)

This beautiful cave is discovered in 1912 and it`s still keeps visitors fascinated. Cave Lokvarka is 1200 metres long. Visitors can enjoy in it`s beauty with help of expert guide. Info phone +385 51/831-278, +385 51/831-250

CAVE VRELO FUZINE, FUZINE

This cave is 3 000 metres far away from centre of Fuzine. In the cave you can find numerous stone ornaments. Cave is 300 metres long and it has clean stream flows. Cave is opened during whole year. Info phone +385 51/835-163

GASTRONOMY

Gastronomy is partly based on sea specialities and partly from rocky ground and wildness of the mountain. There are crabs, fish, shells and olives, olive oil, chestnuts, wine, milk, meat, cheese, frogs and other vegetables & fruit... This is very healthy food.
